There is always a man behind the project. The one who keeps the show going. Recently, Tommey Walker has been the go to in design and art direction. Whether you need a website, myspace, branding, or illustrations he can produce it. Weedstock Generation had a talk with Walker to find out more about the man behind some of the biggest names on the Detroit music scene.
LUCKY 7 Spotlight: Tommey Walker
How did you get started?
“I used to work at this record shop on Six and Woodward next to the Deja Vu. One day my mentor, Orlando, told me to save up and I was gonna get a laptop and he was going to show me things. Then, I went to Cass and began networking. I was known as the nigga who does fliers. Looking at it from a monetary point of view I realized I was good. After that I was just perfecting my craft.I thank the Lord that I can do what I love everyday as a way of livelihood.”
Who inspires you?
“To be honest a lot of my friends. They keep me on my grind with so much creativity around me. So many of my close friends are doing their thing; we push each other. Creatively though Paul Rand, Ron Mueck, Andy Worhall. Just off the top.”
Quote you live by?
“Control the controllable. Every man know what they can do to control their situation. What separates the men from the boys is the ability to prepare the plan and follow through.”
What’s on your I-Pod right now?
“Jwan, Big Sean, Science Parkway, Oba Rowland, Poto, Mike Posner. Most of my I-Pod is a lot of my clients.”
One thing you wanna do before you die?
“Live in Rome.”
If you could solve one world problem what would it be?
“This Illuminati shit. I would solve that shit.”
